PAUL & ANARE DRAIVA ( OUR HERO'S )

were friends doing a job they both loved trying to make this world a safer place for everyone.

PLEASE CAN YOU VISIT ANARE'S SITE AS HE HAS NO FAMILY OVER HERE

1 ROYAL IRISH REGIMENT

Paul thought the world of his family, his mum Violet, dad Michael , brother Simon, sisters Jackie &
Sue and his nieces.

Paul lived his dream of wanting to be in the Army, and joined the Royal Irish Regiment. He loved
army life and thought he was really helping to make a difference and volunteered to go to
Afghanistan to help the people there, he never thought of the danger he was putting himself in. Paul
was that type of person always thinking of other people first.

Paul was seriously injured on Friday 1st september in a mortar attack on the base at Musa Qala in
the Helmand province, his friend Dee who was with him was killed in the attack. Paul was flown to
Oman hospital with serious head and arm injuries. Pauls mum and stepdad was flown out to be with
him. Paul fought so hard to stay with us, but unfortunately Pauls wounds were so severe he couldnt
be stabalised. Paul sadly passed away on Wednesday 6th September 2006 which has devastated his
family and friends but they are very proud of Paul he is their hero.

His commanding officer Lt-col Michael Mcgovern said L/cpl Muirhead was an experienced soldier who
had served on OP Telic 1, the liberation of Iraq, in Nothern Ireland, and most recently a six month
tour of Baghdad and Southern Iraq .
L/cpl Muirhead was a calm , confident and determined member of the patrols platoon. A quiet exterior
belied a character who was renowned for looking after the younger less experienced soldiers. He was
widely respected across the Battalion.

The battalion is deeply saddened at the loss of two soldiers in this incident, both killed as a
result of enemy action .Our thoughts and prayers are of course with their families and friends at
this terrible time.
Col Mcgovern said he had spoken to troops in Afghanistan and their moral remained high . They were
determined to " get on with the job " and ensure that the loss of their friends and comrades would
not be in vain.

Paul you were a very special loving son brother uncle and friend.
We just want to say how much we all love and miss you , and the pain of losing you hurts so bad, we
will always be thinking of you and you are always in our hearts. Paul you have made us so proud, we
miss and love you so much. xxxxxxxx
